What's in a word???

I find it fascinating- that God gave us his WORD to speak truth into our lives. Why did he choose to write things? Perhaps because when something is written- there is a better chance of accurately passing on truth- than when we speak... Link
When we now read the written Word of God is is important to know the original context and form that it was once documented in. Learning the original written languages of Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic is no easy task- and more than likely not going to be done by the average human being. It is not easy- but is necessary to strive to understand the context of original writing- coupled with sincere prayer for discernment and understanding of what is being conveyed through the Word.

The reason I bring this up is because of what I have been reading this morning... President elect Obama is now in the process of deciding who will be on his staff in the upcoming years of his presidency. It is interesting how the tides have turned now that he is elected and is in a new position. Our new president elect has asked us to "forget the campaign..." and move on to things at hand. Check out this article.

I am saddened...not because I am frustrated with Obama or the news for that matter...but with mankind, not excluding myself.

What do our words mean? Apparently not much...and what gives words meaning? It is very easy for me to say many things. Sometimes I ramble on and on...and in my head I'm thinking..."that is not even true...what am I saying!?" I'm quick to respond or answer in the heat of a moment...and then later look back and know that I was completely flippant in my conversation. I guess this is just a reality check for me on the weight of words- and how foolish I look when in one moment I criticize and the next I compliment- or vice versa. How do I become a sincere woman of integrity, not only in words, but of deeds and of heart!?

Looking to the scriptures Deuteronomy 8:3 states "...man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord." Proverbs 30:5 "Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him." John 17:17 "Sanctify them in the truth, your word is truth."

Therefore "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom...and whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." Colossians 3:16

Nice post. It's funny how words sound so out of date or irrelevant so soon. That's why I find so much comfort in the Scriptures because as Martin Luther reminds us the Bible is not antique but also not modern, it is eternal.
