Today is a day that will go down in history. Not only is there another enormous blizzard upon us, there is also a rescue mission happening as we speak. I have a dear friend named Colby Phelps who I swear loves animals more than people. This is an aspect of her character that I normally find very odd and slightly disturbing, but not today. No, today- Colby plays the hero. It all started about an hour ago when Jessica and I were returning from braving the storm.
As we reached the fourth floor of our apartment building we ran into this little guy shivering in the corner.

Tears immediately filled my eyes. I don't know why so much emotion overtook me? Especially for a little bird!? I wanted to pick it up and bring it home to our apartment. I didn't know what to do!? All of a sudden flashes of Colby flew through my brain. A quick phone call was in place and Operation Robin was in motion. The bird is now residing in Colby's apartment. She is warm, happy and so thankful to be alive. I have not stopped laughing through this entire process. I am working on uploading more photos...until then these little
snippets of info keep me hoping for the best. =)
These special little nuggets of info from my special friend Colby keep coming in...

I'm famous!!!!!!!!! And yes, I love animals a whole lot. In animals, I see what most people see in sunsets - the spectacular, gentle, beautiful hand of our loving God. I will not let this little one perish if I can help it.
Colby- once again, your intense love for little creatures makes me realize i should have never shot that deer a couple years back. I am trying to see the "sunsets" in tarantulas. It is a lot more difficult for me.
Especially Sugar Gliders...
Alas, keep reading the Word.
"oh the lilies of the field..."
I still love BEEF.
Oh, I can definitely see the sunsets in tarantulas. They are such beautiful animals but unfortunately they've been vilified by Hollywood and the lesser informed. Keep us posted on the robin and stay warm!!
Kata, you crack me up!!
THIS IS HILARIOUS! Colby, you should let the bird free inside your apt and see what happens!!!!! HAAHAHAHA
Well, Riley did start flying and chirping this morning indicating that she was ready to get back out into the world. I caught her (a feat in itself) and put her on the balcony. After some stretching of her wings, she happily flew off into the sunshine :)
GOOD ENDING TO A GREAT STORY!
Operation Robin: complete!
